How to become a Christian

Hear the Gospel

To become Christian you must must first hear what exactly the Gospel is.

Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures
1 Corinthians 15:1-4 NKJV
So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Romans 10:17 NKJV

Believe the Gospel

Once you hear the news of how Christ took our place and died for our sins you must believe this.

But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
Hebrews 11:6 NKJV

Repent for your past sins

It is not enough to simply believe. God wants you to change your mind, behaviour and lifestyle. This stops many a would be follower of our Lord in their tracks.

Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead.
Acts 17:30-31 NKJV

Confess Jesus as Lord

At some point and time all men everywhere will make this confession. The question becomes whether you do so while you are on this earth or at the day of judgement. If we confess Him now while we still live and breathe, Jesus will do the same before our Father in heaven.

Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.
Matthew 10:32 NKJV

Be baptized for the forgiveness of your sins.

At the conclusion of Jesus' ministry on earth He commanded his disciples to go forth into the entire world and make fellow disciples from all nations and to baptize them in the name of the Father Son and Holy Spirit. On the day of Pentecost the apostle Peter begins to carry out this command and proclaim the good news of God’s victory to all who would listen to him on that that day. The men who were gathered there were so convicted to their heart of the message they asked Peter what they should do. Peter commanded that all repent and be baptized for the forgiveness of their sins. On that day over 3000 souls were added to the church, the bride of Christ.

And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen.
Matthew 28:18-20 NKJV
Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ. Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, men and bretheren what shall we do?

Then Peter said to them, Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.

And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, Be saved from this perverse generation. Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them.
Acts 2:36-42 NKJV
